We love the Holidays; it is a time to rejoice with family and friends. For many, it is also a time to go shopping for toys and things and for others it is time to give back to the community. As a family, we enjoy doing both. It completes our circle of giving and receiving in a way. For the past two years, couple of friends get together and gathered things we no longer need to give to those in need. We make a special date with a family who is going through difficult times and share the good spirit of giving. We get our children involved in the process so they can appreciate the kind act of giving and understand it’s meaning. Couple of days before meeting with the receiving family, we ask our children to go through their rooms and select toys they want to give away to other children. We tell them not to look for things they want to trow away, don’t like or don’t want to use anymore but to select toys that other children might like as well just as if they were receiving the toys themselves. It may be confusing to them at first but the experience is very rewarding at the end.
Everything will come full circle.
